About Eat-a-Metre
Eat-a-Metre is a wide ranging, curriculum rich project using the central premise of growing 1 square metre of vegetables and other plants. Through the growing plots we can access all areas of the curriculum in an innovative, ICT rich, engaging manner.
Opportunities exist for all students to access the project at a relevant level, making it a unique experience for students from Early Years through to Key Stage 4.
There is a heavy emphasis on the core subjects of Science, Numeracy, Literacy and ICT, whilst providing significant opportunities for all other aspects of the curriculum to be taught collaboratively.
Students use five main pieces of technology to discover learning, which from there leads into the wide range of other curriculum areas. Data is recorded using hand held DataLoggers1, this data is then fed into a highly functional dataBase2, from where a broad range of information can be extracted. Digital Cameras3, are used extensively to provide a record of the progress of the project, allowing input from children with all abilities. Digital Microscopes4, are employed to provide a high quality Science experience, looking at the seeds under the Microscope.
